Tui on Harakeke

Tui on Harakeke, is an art print from my Tui birds watercolour series. This Tui is a stunning iridescent blue which is striking against the red and purple tones of the Harakeke. Harakeke grows in huge clumps around Napier and the Tui's love balancing on their waving stems. You just have to be patient to get a good picture before they fly away.

Kingfisher watching is a print from my New zealand bird watercolour series. This delicate little bird hovers over water perched on low lying branches waiting for food. This is a view of Wellington, New Zealand. It is the famous Cuba Street. Cuba Street is alive with edgy art, vintage finds, new ideas and great food. All life moves by on Cuba to the sound of water sloshing in the iconic bucket fountain. This image has been freehand machine embroidered onto new Zealand wool. It is basically a drawing using my sewing machine and thread. The artwork is framed over a canvas frame and then stitched and stapled onto the back of the frame. It will be securely packaged for travel wherever it needs to go.

It is a special spot for visitors and family's and the large slide is a Wellington icon. This image has been freehand machine embroidered onto New Zealand wool. It is basically a drawing using my sewing machine and thread. To create free-motion machine embroidery, I run my sewing machine move my fabric under the needle to draw my design. Often I have lightly sketched out where I want to draw using a fabric chalk. I lower  the "feed dogs" or machine teeth and moves the fabric manually, and this allows me to pull and turn my fabric any way I want as the machine moves the needle up and down very fast.
The artwork is framed over a canvas frame and then stitched and stapled onto the back of the frame. It will be securely packaged for travel wherever it needs to go.

 My Gran had a Silver Birch tea set so I bought a single teacup to remind me of her. Its one of my favorites and I use it for special occasions.  An amazing Lilac breasted Roller ( from sub-Saharan Africa) is perched on the saucer. I have just completed 4 special teacup paintings.
